Years ago we made a deal [through a tax lawyer] with the IRS to forgive most of my tax debt. They simply wrote it off and made me up to date.
I don't see why that wouldn't work with the US debt. Simply pay a small percentage of the debt and call it even.
It's all digital money anyhow.
